A little background information

West Surrey Counselling Is run by Clive Stone MBACP (Accred), UKRC Registered Independent Counsellor

Finding the right counsellor can seem somewhat overwhelming. You may have to navigate through different types of therapies, modalities and qualifications; through to charges, timings and location.  However, what is generally more important is finding someone on the other end of the phone or email who can answer these questions, and aim to agree the help you are looking for before any appointment is made.

I have been practising psychological based therapies since the mid 90s. in excess of 2000 hours of working with individuals and couples. I hold a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling and have studied for a BA Hons in Applied Psychology and undertaken numerous mental health certificated courses, (all detailed below).

I believe that counselling is like any other good relationship it needs to be built on trust and respect without fear of challenge. I will try my hardest to help you navigate the relationships, challenges and trauma that life has given you. The complexities of your life are unique to you and together we can find the answers and unearth what is right for you, helping you to learn to work through, and ultimately resolve what is causing you pain or making your life difficult.

I hold full Accredited (since 2003) membership of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy www.bacp.co.uk. I am also a member of the British Psychological Society www.bps.org.uk

Alongside my private practice I have been running Surrey’s biggest independent mental health charity since the end of the 90's, and have amassed a great deal of experience in helping adults who have mental health problems and provide clinical supervision for students in placement who are completing a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology at the Universities of Surrey; Roehampton; London Met & also for Undergraduates attending Guildford and Farnborough Colleges.

With a great deal of experience in the mental health field I undertake lectures and training in mental health awareness and have delivered a TEDx Talk on men's mental health . I dedicate time and energy into tackling stigma and educating employers about mental health and suicide. An interview I undertook with Matthew Shaw from the BBC at a Minds at Work event can be seen here: You Tube TIMS

What does all this mean to you?  Experience, competence, insurance & professionalism

I have tried to address a number of questions on the FAQs page which I hope proves informative. However, if there is anything else you would you like to know please call, text or email and I will endeavour to answer your queries.
